i had mac's since 2007 i bought my first mac because i went trough windows machines like crazy (every 2 years i needed to get a new one) the best affordable mac for development is an iMac the screen is really big, and its really fast but since my study required me to invest in a laptop i used a MacBook Pro from 2013 untill 2021 $1700 for a laptop you use every day isnt that expensive i think

It is oppression from foreign occupation (war machine hegemony), that 🇯🇵 is falling behind, aside from ageing ppl. 🇯🇵 is greatly oppressed and influenced to remain subjugated. If 🇯🇵 were free, the ppl would surpass their occupier in strength and tech. 🇯🇵 ppl would procreate more and have dignity to live for. Do not embrace this country that you were born. For it is the Roman Empire reincarnated (evil). Arigatō 😊

Only reason people move out is BAD GOVERNANCE. Selling heavy drugs, should be a crime, people should get jailed for that. Jails should not be means for private corporations. Kids should learn math, not genders that do not exist. There should be borders, you can not literally accept random people who have arrest warrant from other countries.

It's sad that burnout has become standard and expected in this industry. They expect you to know everything and then throw it all away every 2 years. The pace of business driven by Agile had destroyed common sense and normal expectations. Some of us are simply more interested in programming than whatever DevOps zoo and cloud nonsense was en vogue at the last Summit your CTO attended.

This is why I love Flutter. Swift & Kotlin = Vendor Lock-In. The cognitive load for keeping up with either one prevents one from building cross-platform solutions that serve humanity and users. There is so much cognitive load in Xcode, i.e. overnight they release iOS 17.5, which you couldn't download yesterday, but now can't even build to your device with 17.4.1 because they require 17.5 to move forward. They keep changing paradigms, i.e. the way data is published to collection views, such that they always come out with a "better" way to do things, such that the old tutorials don't work. I don't want to be a Swift or Kotlin expert. Google got one thing right with Flutter. Sure, it's a lot to learn, but you can build to at least 7 platforms, including web, with a single codebase. Apple, and Google's other teams, are intent on locking developers in and getting them so deep into their own platforms. Who can run a business and be successful by serving only Android or only iOS customers? No one.

I grew up in the Bay Area and moved back again after grad school. I think there is a bubble of tech workers vs locals and you definitely have to try hard to intermix, otherwise it would just seem like a work obsessed monoculture. There’s definitely some resentment from locals towards tech because it makes it so hard for us to stay near our families. Being able to raise my kids near my parents will be tough. But there are a lot of different types of people here that are friendly and open to friendship, not just tech and not just networking dependent friendships.

Looks boring and repetative, don't see how your work directly helps others. I'm also in IT and studied for full stack developer for about 10 years. No job yet but loosing hope at this point. Where is your notebook? External hard drive with all your school projects from which you can create boilerplate code from? That's at least how I imagine it works. I don't think I can code off the top of my head without some reference... Idk doesn't look like you finish lots of projects at the same time... Also, like it where are all your tutorial vids while you were in school to have a portfolio so that people can see you are a legend. Idk I'm not feeling this video very much, looks like a boring, antisocial job

Very good review, thank you! I’ve been using HHKB since 2008, mostly because of the layout (I’ve started my carrier on Sun machines and got used to this layout). Those keyboards are indeed very long lasting, my first HHKB Pro 2 from 2008 is still alive and I use it every day. Another note on switching to other keyboards: I just stopped doing that. I have a piece of plexiglass that I put on top of the laptop and just put my keyboard on it. I think it’s called Sonshi-style in Japan. Happy hacking!

What do you recommend? Thanks.

Leaving this here in case it helps someone - ## Why 1. Personal Projects are Ambiguous, with no clear goal: the project is worth doing not in spite of but _because_ you're doing it from scratch 1. Being able to read documentation, debugging errors, figuring out how something _really_ works 2. In the industry nobody tells you how things work, they just expect you to do it 2. Start with the Basics when learning something new! 1. Tutorial hell is okay **only** to get started with something 2. You need to move past the tutorials and _actually_ build something 3. You don't know how things are going to work unless you explore it yourself 3. Projects as a proxy - projects can be useful just for the hell of it, but can also be useful to demonstrate multiple things to prospective employers 1. It demonstrates that you can deliver value 2. It demonstrates that you have specific interests, and this helps you stand out 4. Build something as though someone else will use it. It helps maintain the standard! ## How > _Rome was not built in a day!_ 1. Be realistic, and keep your personal projects small - This doesn't mean you should dream small, but you should always start with an MVP 1. Features can be classified into "need to have" vs "nice to have" 2. You can always implement the "nice to have" once you have the "need to haves" 2. Plan your projects 1. Estimate! Rely on clues for similar work in the past: `2*(necessary time) + 1` is a good rule of thumb. 2. Organize your tasks into Phases - this helps cut down on overwhelm and helps you know when you need to do what 3. Use version control. It's there to help you know what happened when. and why.
